Since the introduction of the Public Access Rules in 2004, it has been possible for members of the public to instruct barristers directly. This means that qualified barristers can act directly for members of the public without going through a solicitor. This may entail a considerable saving and is often a beneficial and cost effective method of reviewing whether or not litigation will be necessary.
