Mark Rainsford QC to Speak at Business Forum: "The impact of the Bribery Act on UK Companies"

Scheduled to come into force in April 2011, the government is conducting a consultation period to help formulate the guidance on the new Bribery Act 2010, which will be published in the New Year.

Newco Magazine's "Insider" is hosting an event on 08 October 2010 at DLA Piper UK LLP Manchester, which will discuss the Act and its consultation.

The meeting will give local businesses a chance to shape both DLA Piper’s and Deloitte’s response to the consultation by taking into account local business views. Insider say:

"Any company can be caught out by an act of bribery, but those companies who do overseas transactions are particularly vulnerable to bribery and corruption. The new legislation will mean businesses are responsible for any employee or contractor working on their behalf. So if a third party contracted by you uses bribery and corruption to complete the deal, it will be the company that faces prosecution."
Mark Rainsford QC, who specialises in Corporate wrongdoing, bribery and corruption, internal investigations, financial crime, will be joining the panel as will Charlie Monteith, Senior Policy Advisor at the Serious Fraud Office. Both will give a unique perspective on what companies will be investigated for and what companies need to do to be compliant.

Insider will be forwarding the findings of this meeting to the consultation panel and state so this is your chance to shape the legislation.

Following the meeting, DLA Piper will be offering free private consultations on the Act to a limited number of guests.

Guest panellists will include:

  • Richard Smyth – partner, Corporate Crime and Investigations,DLA Piper UK
  • Simon Cuerden - partner, Forensic and Dispute Services, Deloitte
  • Mark Rainsford QC (expert in advising corporate organisations and individual directors on issues concerning bribery and corruption)
  • Charlie Monteith -Head of Assurance, Serious Fraud Office
