SUCCESSFUL CONCLUSION TO SFO PROSECUTION FOR ALISTAIR WEBSTER Q.C. AND FIONA JACKSON
On 17th July, the Court of Appeal gave judgment in the appeal against conviction of Ludovic Black, the lead perpetrator of the nationwide fraud in relation to solar panels, prosecuted by Alistair Webster Q.C. and Fiona Jackson on behalf of the SFO.
The Court dismissed the appeal. Black had been sentenced to 7 years and 8 months’ imprisonment at the conclusion of a 5 month trial in Liverpool in 2018. Five other men were convicted in the conspiracy.
The case involved overall losses of £13m. The convictions involved directors, shadow directors and financial advisers.
Alistair comments: “It is very satisfying to have been involved from an early stage of the investigation and to help to guide it. This was a massive fraud, in terms of the number of victims and the efforts made by the fraudsters to cover their tracks. I hope that this appeal brings the matter to a close. This was a significant win for the SFO. It was great to work with Fiona whose attention to detail was formidable.”
